Devlog 6 - End of Year

Hey ya’ll — time for the end of year devlog.

This one is just to bring everything together and show where the game stands as we head into 2026.

Rulebooks & Final Passes

The Core Rulebook and the PvP Game Format Rulebook are fully written.

Right now I’m focused on the technical pass for both: tightening explanations, cleaning up sections, checking consistency, and making sure everything connects the way it should.

A big part of this stage is taking a ton of photos for the books. I have a dedicated setup for that, and it’s made the workflow a lot smoother. Here’s a shot of what that looks like:

Once these two books are finalized, the full six book structure will be locked in. If you want more detail on how the rulebooks work and why they’re split the way they are, you can read the devlog below:

What’s Left Before Release

The game as a whole is in a really solid place. The internal formulas, math, and systems are basically in place. A lot of it is finished and some parts still need work, but the foundation is done.

Here’s the remaining major workload:

Unit Stats & Combat Actions

Many units are already built out, but a good chunk still need their final stats and combat actions completed.

Unit Cards

The templates are already done. Once the stats and actions are finalized, the cards will get filled in. This is mostly plug and play using the systems that are already built.

Army Books

After the unit stats and cards are finished, I’ll move on to the four Army Books. They’re much simpler than the Core Rulebook or the PvP book, but they still need proper attention.

Each Army Book will include light lore, game details, and all relevant unit cards.

If you want to know when the lore will begin expanding after the beta, here’s the devlog that explains it:

Finishing The Fallen

The Fallen continues to move forward in the background. The fourth army for the beta is about halfway done, and I’ll keep adding to it as I finish the rulebooks and unit data.

All of this together makes up the final stretch toward release.

Website & Visual Overhaul

Sometime early next year, I’ll be taking the website down temporarily to do a full overhaul. The current site is basically a placeholder, and a lot of information is outdated.

The plan is to update:

  • visuals
  • layout
  • project information
  • new tabs for the game
  • overall clarity and flow

Now that the game is fully defined, the website needs to match it.

I’m also planning to hire a professional to design the official Beyond Space game logo. The goal is to get that done within the next couple of months. If you know someone who can help, reach out to me on Discord.

Edition Title

The current working title for Edition 1 is:

Beyond Space: War for What Matters

I’m about ninety percent sure that is the final name, but I’ll confirm it once everything is locked in.

Beta Target

Right now, the target is a spring beta.

Nothing is guaranteed yet. It’s just the most realistic estimate based on how everything is coming together. Late spring seems possible. Once I have a firm date, I’ll announce it.

Next Devlog — Building the Gameboard Without a 3D Printer

The first devlog of 2026 will cover something new:

What if you don’t have an FDM printer to make the gameboard — can you still play?

Beyond Space is designed to be as accessible as possible, including alternative ways to build the board without a printer.

The next devlog will break that down with images. The Core Rulebook includes a full guide that walks you through how to make the board out of foam board or poster board using a stencil and a few basic tools. It’s inexpensive and works the same as the printed version.

I’ll go into the details, photos, and steps in that devlog.

Closing the Year

That’s everything for this update. We’re really close now — a lot closer than even a few months ago. There’s still plenty to finish, but the major pieces are lining up, and the game finally feels like it’s approaching the release window.

Thanks for the support this year — it’s been wild. Next year is going to be a big one, and there’s a lot more on the way.

Appreciate ya’ll.
